What can we use a Get Out! Grant for?

An essential criteria is that the grant must be used to support off-site educational visits.

Some of the ways the Get Out! Grant have been used previously include: purchasing equipment and resources; investing in specialist training; and subsidising travel and activities; however, we’re sure you’ve got lots of ideas - and we can’t wait to hear them!

How do I apply for a Get Out! Grant?

Schools are invited to submit an application via our online form (click the ‘apply now’ buttons on this page) explaining how they intend to use the grant to give their children and young people memorable opportunities beyond the classroom.

Here are some questions you might consider when planning your application:

  • How will this grant benefit your students now, and into the future?

  • What will it enable you to do that would otherwise not be achievable?

  • How will it support inclusion and widening participation in educational visits?

  • How will it impact the children and young people at your school?

What makes a successful application?

We receive lots of applications for our grants, so we’re looking for something a little bit special in your application. Why not consider involving your students in the application process?

Be creative and make your application stand out - you can even upload a video or other media to help bring your ideas to life.

Good luck with your applications!

2024 Get Out! Grant process

We’re doing things a little differently this time around. The application process will open at the end of February and close at the end of June, giving you plenty of time to develop your ideas and to prepare your applications.

Once the application window closes, our Educational Visits Advisers will review all the applications and agree the twelve successful schools. This is the toughest part!

We’ll announce the successful schools in September and distribute the grants for you to use in the 24/25 school year.

FAQs

  • The grant is open to schools in England and Wales across early years, primary and secondary phases, including state schools, academies and free schools, and independent schools. It is also available to non-mainstream educational settings such as special schools and pupil referral units. Unlike previous grants, this year’s Get Out! Grant is not available to other groups or organisations e.g. community interest companies, charities, youth groups, or venues/providers.

  • The grant is for off-site visits only – this could include your local area but does not include funding for on-site outdoor learning.

This grant is designed to support your educational visits and we’ll be looking for applications that show how you’ll use the grant to give children and young people access to these enriching experiences.

Previously schools have used the Get Out! Grant to subsidise travel or the cost of activities; develop resources; buy catering equipment for a camping trip; and invest in specialist paddleboard equipment and training. Get inspired by our previous grantees here.

Please note, the Get Out Grant cannot be used for cover costs or for retrospective purchases/ expenses.

  • Applications will be assessed by EVOLVE Advice advisers in July 2024 and the winners announced at the start of the new school term, in September 2024.
